Come sing along! Friday, November 21st at:

The Museum is excited to present one of the best nights of folk music that Rockland has seen and heard in years ... our first Music Night at the Museum!

Sea shanties played a vital role in the carrying out of day to day work aboard the many thousands of sailing vessels that plied the waters of the Gulf of Maine and beyond. To hear the rhythms and melodies of these songs is to feel the rhythm of the sea itself, and when they are sung, maritime history literally comes to life. Some of Maine's finest performers will play their favorite songs for you, with a line up that includes:

Family band Playin' Possum, solo performers Nick Apollonio and Bob Stuart, a rare live performance by Anne Dodson & Matt Szostak, troubadour David Dodson, Tom Judge, Joanne & Peter Souza, and folk legend Gordon Bok.

This free presentation on November 21 starts at 7:00PM, with coffee and refreshments served at 6:30PM prior to the event. Donations and new memberships will be greatly appreciated.

The Museum is located at 75 Mechanic Street in Rockland, adjacent to Rockland's Snow Marine Park. Please call 594-2230 or 701-7627 for more details.

Circumnavigation Under Sail!

“He was one of the best mates I ever sailed with!”
Herb Smith, builder of ALL the Appledores, referring to Jack Williams, mate on the Appledore II during her maiden circumnavigation cruise.

Jack Williams, President of Camden National Bank, will be our featured speaker on December 4, 2008 at the Sail, Power & Steam Museum as he describes and shares this adventure with our members and guests.

Herb Smith is hard at work on Appledore VII, and we hope to have him as a speaker during the Museum’s programs next year.

Events begin at 7PM and are FREE and open to the public. We invite you to join us for coffee and refreshments at 6:30PM in the Museum. Call 701-7627 or 701-7626 for more details.

Eat Lobster!Sharpie's Shack hosted several successful Fundraising Schooner-style Lobster Bakes in the 2008 season that benefited the Sail, Power and Steam Museum. There was always plenty of fun and lots of great food; lobster, clams and corn on the cob, and bonfires with marshmallows to roast and music to sing along to. The shores of the harbor at Sharp's Point South haven't seen such revelrie since the good ol' days!

Make sure to look here for updates on next season's first Schooner-style Lobster Bake Fundraiser, or click here to join the Museum mailing list and get all the most up to date information sent right to you as it .

Raising the frame section of the Red JacketThe staff and volunteers of the Sail, Power and Steam Museum recently moved and installed an 1890s-era steam engine and victorian-style building on the grounds. Using rollers, planks and a WWII-vintage tractor, they were able to get the slab into position and then place the building upon it. After some final adjustments, the boiler and engine were put in place and will be tested and running soon. Please make sure to come down to the Sail, Power & Steam Museum this Fall and see the results for yourself!

Stay tuned for more updates on all that is happening here at "The Point!"
